Year in review – 2018
Hi everyone,
this post is in my drafts for a month and didn’t have much time to finish till now. This is my year in review in domain investing business. What mistakes I did, what lessons I learned and what domains I bought and sold.
My achievements
My biggest achievement this year was that I sold a domain name and recorded a highest selling price to date. The domain name is MedicalRobots dot com It was also added at the top of my Domain Sales History page. This was one of the domain names that I bought with a partner an year ago before the sale.
Second achievement I have developed and was able to finish my own software to manage my domain assets. From this software I track my domain acquisitions and sales. I also track expiration dates, domain registrars, renewal costs, inbound offers, analyses the traffic on my landing pages and etc. It also has automation tools that checks the status of every domain name daily. Everything is on one place. I am not using spreadsheets anymore 🙂 . I still have few in-development features which will finish in the next few months.
Successfully developed few of my domain names. I develop domains very often especially if I can’t sell for the desired price, then I sell them in flippa as developed websites. These ones that I successfully developed I won’t sell, because they bring good monthly income that is enough to cover my domains and hosting renewals.
Two of my domain sales were featured in dnjournal.com. Those are MedicalRobots.com and ForSale.eu, both were sold during the past year via sedo.com. Also one of my domain acquisition was featured in dnjournal too. It is a very nice domain name that I spent 4 figures to acquire via namejet.
My mistakes
My biggest mistake last year was that half of my ROI from domain sales I invested in crypto. I got some altcoins in May 2018 when the price was half of the price from January 2018, now the price is 3x down of my investment price, which is fairly bad and I didn’t see rising again on the same levels in the near future. I still hold these assets as long term investments and probably will see the course by the end of 2019.
Second mistake first half of 2018 I invested in crypto related domain names. When the price of crypto currencies fell down enough so everyone can realize it won’t go back on the same levels, the interest in crypto domain names fell from the sky too. Now I have few crypto related domain names without any inbound offers from months and probably will drop. The good thing here my total investment price was below $1k.
